So, when NBC announced they were discontinuing the show, I was understandably sad. When Yahoo Screen I was understandably very happy… and rather skeptical.
The first thing I was skeptical about was Yahoo Screen. I didn’t even know that existed.
The second thing I was skeptical about was budget, as it was going to be uploaded for free to Yahoo Screen. I am aware that ads exist, but most of the Internet uses Adblock now, and the ads won’t be shown.
So, last Sunday night, I had the living room to myself as everyone was in bed, and I decided to watch some television, and that television ended up being the show that I have been excited but skeptical about; Community.
I managed to watch the first four episodes of this season, and boy, was it good.
I don’t know why I was skeptical looking back at it know. There’s a saying; comedy doesn’t need a budget, and that’s really true.
The new season feels just like old Community. Well written comedy, funny, weird and crazy plots, everything.
This is a “first impressions” post, so I’m not going to review it (I’ll do that at the end of the season). So, my first impressions are very positive.
I hope this drives more major shows to put their shows up for free viewing, as Community shows that it is very possible. I am very excited for the future of these kind of shows moving to the Internet.
